Types Of Dental Emergencies We Treat

We treat all types of dental emergencies. Here are some examples and what you can do until you are able to see us:.

Toothaches

If you're experiencing a toothache you should first clean the area around the affected tooth. Then rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water and use dental floss to dislodge any food that may be impacted. If the pain still exists contact North Sydney Dental Practice and take pain relief as directed. Please do not place asprin, nurofen or heat to the gum or affected tooth. If the face is swollen, apply a cold pack and contact your dentist immediately.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

If possible, try and find the dislodged tooth and ensure you handle it by the crown NOT the root. You may rinse the tooth with milk or very briefly with water. Do not clean with soap, scrub or handle unnecessarily. Inspect the tooth for fractures. If it is sound, please try and insert back into it's socket. Hold the tooth in place by biting on a gauze pad or clean cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, keep it moist by placing it in milk - NOT WATER. If the patient is old enough, the tooth may also be carried in the patients mouth (beside the cheek). You should book an appointment with a dentist immediately! Time is a critical factor in saving the tooth.

Knocked Out Baby Tooth

Unlike permanent teeth, the baby teeth should not be replanted due to the possibility of damaging the developing permanent tooth. In most cases, no treatment is necessary, however it is still important to seek advice from dental professional to review the trauma site.

Chipped/Fractured Permanent Tooth

Time plays a critical factor, so please contact North Sydney Dental Practice immediately to reduce the chance of infection or the need for extensive (and expensive) dental treatment in the future. Rinse the mouth with cold water and apply a cold compression to reduce or prevent any swelling. If you can find the broken piece, bring it with you to the dentist.

Possible Broken or Fractured Jaw

Keep the jaw from moving and take the patient to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Severe Blow to the Head
